We are pleased to announce that the first module of the SustainaKit Good Practices Handbook is now available for free download on our website. It marks the first major result of the project.
What Is the Good Practices Handbook?
The Handbook is the theoretical foundation of SustainaKit. It gives culinary VET teachers and learners the knowledge they need to understand sustainability and apply it in professional kitchens, classrooms and everyday life.
It explores the environmental, economic and social dimensions of sustainability in the culinary sector. It also explains how VET institutions can lead the transition towards more sustainable food systems.
Module 1: Foundations of Sustainability in Culinary VET
The first module sets the base for everything that follows. It introduces:
- The key principles of sustainable food systems and why they matter for future culinary professionals.
- The role of culinary VET centres in promoting sustainability through teaching, kitchen practices and institutional culture.
- How sustainability is being integrated into culinary VET across Europe.
- Relevant European policy frameworks, including the European Green Deal, the Farm to Fork Strategy and the Circular Economy Action Plan, linking classroom learning with Europe’s path towards a greener future.
How Was It Developed?
The module builds on the learning outcomes defined by the partnership at the start of the project and was refined through feedback from all partners. The partners bring complementary expertise in culinary education, sustainability, food innovation and teacher training. This ensures that the content is reliable, relevant and adapted to the real needs of VET schools.
What Comes Next?
Module 1 is the first of four modules. The next ones will focus on:
- Responsible consumption and sustainable sourcing
- Food waste reduction and KM0 products
- Sustainable culinary techniques and resource efficiency
Once complete, the Handbook will be available in English, Slovak, Spanish, Italian and Greek. It will be tested and reviewed by VET teachers, learners and external stakeholders.
The Handbook will be accompanied by the SustainaKit Toolkit, which turns theory into practice through activities, quizzes and interactive content for learners and teachers.
Download Module 1
Teachers, trainers, learners and anyone interested in sustainable cooking are invited to download Module 1 from the Handbook page. We welcome your feedback, which helps us make the next modules even more useful.
